OSUN Sports Festival: An avenue to catch young sporting talents -Yemi Lawal.
The state of Osun will spare no effort in occasionally tapping and discovering avalanche of talents nature has endowed the state with in the field of sports.
Towards achieving this, all important objective of catching them young , the state government of Osun is therefore ready to showcase its potential budding talents to the local, national and international sporting activities scheduled to begin throughout the state this month.
This is the first time this will be taking place in the history of the state of Osun. It is tagged "Osun Sports Festival 2021".
The state Commissioner for Youths and Sports , Hon.Yemi Lawal made this disclosure today at a press conference organized by his Ministry in preparation for the maiden edition of the sporting encounters among the youths.
The sporting events according to Lawal will end on the 27th of August,2021 to mark the 30th anniversary Programmes of the creation of the state of Osun.
The sporting festival which will cost the State Government several millions of naira according to Mr Yemi Lawal will be for the youths between the ages of 15 and 29 throughout the state.
The Commissioner who thanked Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the approval further explained that the festival will parade young and budding talents in 31 Sporting events among which are Athletes, football ,Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Weightlifting and Golf to mention but few.
According to him, " The festival will be in 3 phases of local, Zonal and State. All local Government Council will present at Least 100 athletes at the festival which will climax on August 27th, 2021".
" Efforts have been put in place to ensure that no stone is left un-turned, hence sub-committees have been set up to oversee some important areas of the events such as Accommodation, feeding, accreditation, technical, among others". He said.
During the barely one hour long press conference attended by both print and electronic media at the conference Hall of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Lawal also took time to real out some of the achievements of the State Government under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to include but not limited to; Appointments of 42 local Government Sport Coordinators, Approval and funding of the State participants at the 20th National Sports Festival in Edo, Appointment of Association for Sports in the State, Fencing and renovation of the Osogbo township Stadium.
The Commissioner therefore enjoined all stakeholders across the State to give maximum support to the festival in ensuring its successful conducts throughout the period it lasted .
Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode who was represented by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mrs Olubukola Aderibigbe explained that sports is a catalyst for national development.
Mrs Egbemode who also thanked Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his passion for the growth and development of youths at all times in all their endeavours, emphasised that efforts must be made to ensure that the youths lived up to the desired billings of being worthy ambassadors of the state in and outside sporting activities.
