Osun Sports Festival: Technical Committee begins tour of facilities.
In preparation for the forthcoming "Osun Sports Festival", the first of its kind to be hosted by the State, the Technical Committee saddled with the responsibility of providing and Monitoring the facilities needed for the event has embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of the centres cum facilities in the various local Government Areas where the sporting activities will take place.
The Committee led by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports , Mr Yemi Lawal among other places visited, Ijesa-Sports Club, Ilesha and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife to have a look on the state of things.
The Commissioner while speaking at OAU, Ile Ife explained that the purpose of visiting the institution was to formally introduce the "Osun Sports Festival" to the Authority of the Institution in preparatory to the full commencement of the festival.
Mr Lawal who was represented by the Director of Sports in the Ministry, Mr Layi Adesiyan used the opportunity to again state the purpose of organizing the event, which among others is to discover hidden talents at the grassroots who in turn would be useful for the State and the country at large.
Responding, the Director of Sports, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Mr Abu Adamu gave kudos to the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for deeming it fit to organize the event at this critical time .
Mr Adamu was of the impression that, the festival will no doubt be of tremendous advantage to the youth especially in getting them insulated in social vices. He also acknowledged the fact that it will be a veritable avenue to discover talents in sports in Osun State who in turn will project the image of the state to the larger Society, nationally and Internationally.
Mr. Adamu appreciated the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola for the choice of OAU, Ile Ife as one of the Centres in which the event will take place, stressing that the Institution has enough sporting facilities that may be required for events such as Volleyball, Wrestling, Judo, Taekwondo, athletics, football, table tennis and Cricket among others.
In the meantime, the tour of sporting facilities in some of the designated centres round the State will continue.
