Osun Govt. distributes Cocoa seedlings, agrochemicals, farm inputs to farmers.
To improve agriculture in Osun State, the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola today distributed one hundred thousand hybrid cocoa seedlings to farmers .
Similarly, it complimented the gesture with the free distribution of agrochemicals and other farm inputs valued at several millions of naira to farmers across the State.
The programme which took place at Agric Demonstration Centre, Aisu, Owode-Ede had in attendance, the wife the Governor, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi, representative of the Speaker, OSHA, Hon. Olajide Adeyeye, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola and other notable dignitaries too numerous to mention.
Speaking at the event, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola disclosed that agriculture has always been one of the top priorities of his administration which necessitated willingness to always provide the necessary platform for practitioners within the State to practice the trade unhindered.
Mr Oyetola reiterated that the vision of his administration is to make Osun the food hub in the SouthWest and to allow the peaceful coexistence between farmers and hardsmen to continue.
He emphasised that each local government area in the State is expected to get a minimum of one thousand, five hundred Cocoa seedlings.
Governor Oyetola stressed that the programme is aimed at empowering farmers and cushion the effects of erratic weather conditions in the year 2020 which resulted into long drought and flooding in different parts of the State.
According to him, "It is pertinent to remind this gathering that agriculture remains the main source of economy for the State and it's vast potential for generating revenue, employment, raw materials and supply of food to the teeming populace of the State.
" It is my pleasure to inform you that, on the agricultural land expansion Programme, there is establishment of ten thousand ectres of farland to be used as farm settlement at F3 in Ife South local government area in which four hundred thousand has been cleared, construction of fish ponds, collection of milk at Aisu, Ede among others".
Governor Oyetola also stated that, Osun State Agricultural and Development Programme, OSADEP, and Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security have been repositioned for the procurement of five new tractors and its implements.
One of the highlights of the program was the presentation of the sum of two hundred million naira cheque to Osun Broilers Outgrowers production Scheme, OBOPS aimed at empowering poultry farmers, mostly youth and women in the State for the procurement of day old chickens, drugs, vaccines and feeds .
He urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the scheme to cue into the vision of the administration to facelift Agriculture in the State and the entire South-West.
In his address of welcome, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Adedayo Adewole appreciated Governor Oyetola and other partners for supporting the agricultural development Programme in the State.
He noted that the distribution of the seedlings at this time is will go a long way in boosting Agriculture.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman, AFAN, Alhaji Suleiman Araokanmi and one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Dickson Samson appreciated the State Government for the kind gesture.
Another highlights of the programme was the sensitization of farmers by the Good Agro Practice Cocoa, GAP, from Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria led by Dr. Rasheed Adedeji on the new cocoa hybrids.
