Food Sufficiency in Osun, top priority of Oyetola led Administration, says Adewole, Agric Commissioner.



  

The  quest to ensure adequate provision of foods to the citizenry will continue to be in the front burner of Oyetola led administration. Against this backdrop,the administration will not at all times hesitate to put all necessary machinery in place to make farmers enjoy the needed support from Government. 
     
 Commissioner for Agriculture and Food security, Mr Adedayo Adewole made these positions known  while   flagging  off the free  distribution of  T.M.E 419 Cassava stems  to Farmers  in the different farm settlements  across the State.
      
The exercise according to the Commissioner is in furtherance of the resolve of Oyetola led  government  to curtail  the scarcity and high cost of food stuffs  in the State.
   
 The distribution of the cassava stems took place  concurrently  in some  select local governments in the state with Ila and  Odo Otin being the first beneficiaries.
  
 Adewole noted that the programme which was in collaboration with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture,IITA,  Ibadan was basically geared towards   boosting  food production especially  cassava in lieu of bountiful harvest next year.
     
He told the gathering of farmers who are mostly into Cassava farming   that the State Governor, Mr  Adegboyega Oyetola has identified three major areas which the State of Osun  has a comparative advantage on  in the field of  Agriculture to  be Cocoa, Poultry and Cassava.
    
The Commissioner recalled with satisfaction  that about three months ago, Oyetola  embarked on similar gesture with the free  distribution of  Cocoa seedings to all farmers pari passu with   the official  launch of O' broilers scheme estimated to be to the tune of  over two hundred million naira (#200,000.000). 
     
Adewole added that the   distribution of the Cassava stems  is the third phase of the programme in Osun.
    
He did not forget to challenge the farmers to live up to the expectations of the state  government just as he advised    them  to plant the stems early enough  before the end of the  rainy season to ensure bumper harvest next year.
   
 In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Ila Local Government Area, Hon. Olumide Babatunde and his counterpart from  Odo-Otin, Hon. Adepoju Oladele lauded the kind gesture of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.They submitted that only a   kind hearted  and magnanimous governor like Oyetola will do such for farmers in his State.
    
The State Chairman, Cassava Growers Association of Nigeria, Dr. David Ogunsade who was represented by Evangelist Olayiwola Abodunrin and the representative of State Chairman, Farm Settlers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Adebara Atanda also lauded the state government of Osun for its proactiveness and  thoughtfulness to farmers .
   
They noted that the gesture will no doubt ensure food sufficiency and availability next year. 
   
The free distribution of the cassava stems will  continue this  week across the remaining local Government Areas of the State.
