Tourism Development: A Collective Responsibility of all, says Dr. Sonubi.
By Sunday Okunade.
The development of tourism sector in Osun State has been described as a collective responsibility of all and sundry.
Dr. Olugbenga Sonubi of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State made this statement in Osogbo, the State Capital while fielding questions from newsmen. While stating that for tourism to grow to its full capacity, some stakeholders must be carried along, Dr. Sonubi identified the critical stakeholders as: the physically challenged, Okada Transporters, Carvers, drummers, local fabric producers and others.
Dr. Sonubi further clarified that the isolated stakeholders are potential tourism developers who can not be toyed with, advancing that their contributions to tourism cannot be over-emphasized.
The Tourism expert then called the attention of government to some of the areas which need urgent action such as: human resource capacity building, infrastructure, safety, political stability security and health accessibility.
He also identified some of the benefits embedded in tourism as: steady revenue generation, natural beauty, sustainable development, economic expansion, new business ideas to mention but few.
Dr. Sonubi did not fail to pinpoint some of the challenges facing tourism like government policy summersault, dwindling revenue, work ethics among others.
" I want you to know that to have a well developed State, tourism sector has to be given a topmost priority because, if government concentrates on tourism development, it is enough to generate 90 percent of the State's revenue.",Sonubi asserted.
He however encouraged government and stakeholders to join hands together to develop Tourism in Osun State and Nigeria at large.
