Oddity of life: Osun Govt. condemns violence against Women and Children.
The State Government of Osun has reiterated that the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola will not condone acts of violence, child abuse or any other related act in the state, with a vow that perpetrators will not go unpunished.
Commissioner for Women , Children and Social Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo emphasized this while reacting to the case of a 43 year old man, simply identified has Sanjo who was reliably gathered to be engaging in the killing of babies given birth to by his wife.
The Commissioner explained that the State helmsman places high premium on the welfare of children in the State and will do everything to ensure their safety.
In his confessional statement, the suspect explained:" I got married to my wife in 2008 and God blessed us with five children.It was the third child that I beat, unintentionally, to death. My wife left the child with me and she started crying, I did all I could to placate her but she kept crying. Something just came upon me and i beat the two months old baby to death. I and my wife buried the child on our farm land."
Speaking, the wife mentioned that she gave birth to 5 babies out of which 4 are dead and the 5th being the newly born. She explained that they decided to kill two of the babies due to poverty while they dumped the third one around Technical Area, Osogbo.
Narrating her experience, she mentioned that she suffered in the hand of her husband,claiming that apart from constantly subjecting her to hard labour on his farm, the man is fond of beating and tying her down before sexual intercourse. The woman also confessed that on several occasions, she had been compelled to source sexual partners for the suspect. She further revealed that they had made several abortion attempts on the new baby before he was delivered safe and sound.
Upon a hint by a good samaritan, the Ministry moved in on the duo.
Meanwhile, suspect has since been arrested and handed over to the police.
