Osun Governor,  Adegboyega Oyetola has reiterated his commitment to the welfare of all residents including Persons with Disabilities whom he described as important members of the society that should be given their deserved pride of place.

The Governor stated this in Osogbo, the State Capital while delivering a speech at the closing ceremony of a skills acquisition programme and distribution of take-off stipends for Persons with Disabilities who were trained in the production of a local fabric "Adire Osun" in the State.

Addressing the  beneficiaries who were drawn from the different federal Constituencies in the state,  Governor Oyetola who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Yemi Lawal, urged them to make judicious use of the skills acquired and ensure that the stipends they  got are efficiently managed for continuous wealth creation.

The Governor mentioned  the various support schemes  which the present administration have given to people with special needs to  include but not limited to  distribution of mobility and impairment aids; sponsorship of Congress and election of new Executive Members of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities; prioritizing them for palliative during COVID-19, and food relief programme among others. He described these gestures as testimonies  to the fact that his  government  accord them special attention at all times. 

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths and Sports, Aremo Adegboyega Adelabu felicitated with the lucky participants for the great privilege to be selected to benefit from the gesture of the state government.

He added that the programme is also in line with the administration's policy of wearing Adire by all categories of public Servants; Political functionaries and others on Thursdays of the Week, stating that the importance of Persons with Disabilities in the Society cannot be over-emphasized.

In their separate goodwill messages, the duo of the Chairman, Joint National Association for Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Osun State Chapter, Comrade Kehinde Onitiju and Engr. Niyi Ibikunle commended Governor Oyetola for being friendly and compassionate with People with Disabilities in the State.
 
They charged their members to reciprocate the good gesture of the Governor by supporting his re-election for a second term  so as to give him the opportunity to continue the good works beyond 2022.

Three of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others, Mrs Afolabi Barakat from Ila, Mrs Bolanle Alowolodu from Atakumosa and Mr Akanmu Dauda thanked the State Government for the kind gesture, promising to make good use of the opportunity.

Highlight of the programme was the Presentation of take-off stipends to the beneficiaries .It was followed by a guided to the various exhibition stands at the venue.
