Sunday Okunade
In order to boost the production of locally made fabrics known as "Adire Osun" the State Government of Osun, under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has set aside 12 hectres of land for the construction of Adire Osun market.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the State, Dr. Obawale Adebisi made this known in Osogbo during a meeting held with the Adire Osun Producers Association, who were drawn from across the local governments in the State. He disclosed that the Governor is not pleased with the rate at which Adire production is going into extinction, hence the need for its resuscitation.
Dr. Obawale, who was flanked by the management and staff of the Ministry, noted that the market will enable the Adire producers to engage in mass production and to export it to foreign countries without Government tax Levy. He opined that, if this could be achieved, it will help in boosting the State economy. He further revealed that Government is preparing to train a minimum of 1000 people on Adire production.
While charging the association members to go back to their respective Local Governments to register all Adire producers,he promised that the local fabric would be promoted to the extent that it would soon enjoy popular patronage as "aso ebi."
Dr. Obawale then enjoined the participants to accept the Government policy with the heart of gratitude stressing that, the association must register with the Government for proper identification, promotion of the business and other benefits.
The Political head of the Ministry however urged them to produce the material in high quality without adultration in orderto secure patronage across the country and beyond.
While speaking, the President of the Association, Ganiyu Ibikunle appreciated the State Government for the good gesture, stating that, it's a way of boosting their business. He charged the members of the Association to be united in order not to let the Government down.
Ganiyu also pledged,on behalf of his members,to cooperate with the State Government saying that" to whome much is given, much is expected".
