Women Empowerment: A key to National Development, Osun First Lady
Osun First Lady, Mrs kafayat Oyetola has described empowerment of women as a major key to national development.
Mrs Oyetola stated this at the opening ceremony of a- 5-day training on ICT infrastructure and empowerment training for women, girls, and youth in six geopolitical zones of the country, organized by
Federal Government though The National center for women Development (NCND) in collaboration with Osun State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs held in Osogbo, the State Capital.
The First Lady, who was represented by wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Bose Oyebamiji said, if government at all levels can key into empowering of youth, women and girls in the society, it will reduce the problem of unemployment that society is facing and also give them the opportunity to carter for the family whenever the need arises.
She stressed further that, ICT infrastructure and empowerment programme is one of the skills needed by the youths to prevent them from seeking white collar jobs, but be self independent.
Mrs Oyetola therefore admonished the participants to listen attentively to the training, which,she advised,will be beneficial to them in all endeavors.
Also speaking at the program the Director General National Center for Women Development (NCND), Hon.Dr .Asabe Bashir who was represented by the Chief Education Officer of the organization Mr Aniekan Akpan explained that NCWD is an agency of the Federal Government saddled with the responsibility of training and empowering Nigerian Women to make them become self reliant.
According to him “ The center in the recent time is focusing on training of women in areas that male dominate and to make them better in the society. This programme is designed to train women in the South West, using Osun State as the template to empowering windows and the vulnerables.
" The training in Osun State is the third in its series as Maiduguri, Borno and Akwa Ibom, both in the North-East and South-South,have been previously visited". He said.
He however, assured each participant of getting a brand new laptop and other stipends to start off the ICT on their own.
