The Supervisor for Osun Ministry of Culture Tourism, Mr Olalekan Badmus has charged the Traditional Religion Worshippers to cooperate with the State Government to eradicate ritual killings in the land.
This charge was given at a programme organised by the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association, Osun State Chapter (TRWASO), as part of the ongoing year 2022 Isese Festival with the theme " Ancient Yoruba Traditional Religion, and money Rituals, any relationship?", held in Osogbo, the State Capital which featured ancient poetry command performance (Ewi Alohun).
The Supervisor, who was represented by the Coordinating Director in the Ministry, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola reiterated the commitment of the Oyetola led administration in eradicating ritual killings and other associated wickedness in Osun, noting that government is collaborating with the security agents to ensure that the residents of the State are secured.
Mr Badmus equally enjoined the traditionalists not to let down their guards in ensuring that Yoruba Ancient Poetry Command and Culture transmission like' Oriki Idile, Iyere Ifa, Ewi and Ijala Ode' among others are sustained, stating that Ancient Poetry is very important to the Yorubas, while appreciating them for re-igniting the fire of cultural values that are already going into extinction.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of the Association, Dr. Oluseyi Atanda appreciated all participants for gracing the occasion. He noted with concern that Yoruba poetry has always been the instruments used by ancient fathers to teach their children morals, caution people of their bad actions, explaining that the programme was organised to revive the Yoruba poetries that are now becoming things of the past.
He further explained that traditional religion has nothing to do with ritual killings whatsoever, adding that whoever is caught in the act should be subjected to the full wrath of the law in order to serve as deterrent to others.
In their separate remarks, Chief Ifagbanusola Atanda and Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon appreciated the gods for giving them the grace to witness this year's Isese festival.
They interceded for the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, while charging government not to forget the promises made on securing lives and property of Osun residents.
They decried the rate at which ancient poetry is dying in Yoruba land, saying that parents should allow their children learn ancient poetry in order to revive it.
They therefore urged traditionalists to join hands together to lift the religion high.
Highlight of the programme was the rendition of Yoruba Ancient Poetry such as Iyere-ifa,Esa Egungun, Ijala Ode and Ohun Sango among others.
Present at the event were government officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Council for Art and Culture,Osun Tourism Board and Traditional Religion Worshippers across the State, including the foreigners.
