Sunday Okunade
The Chairman, House Committee on Culture and Tourism, Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Yinka Adetoyi has stated that Osun is endowed with natural phenomenon which, he advised the Yorubas, to cherish, promote and maximize.
The Law maker, representing Odo-Otin State Constituency, stated this at a programme organised by Osun State Ministry of Culture, Tourism and other cultural agencies of the State tagged " Cultural Day Celebration" to support the ongoing Osun Osogbo festival held at the Palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, in the State capital.
Hon. Adetoyi noted that the natural phenomenon which God has given the State is enough to grow her economy if well promoted by the residents of the State. He regretted that people prefer traveling abroad to watch artificial creatures than promoting the indigenious creatures in the State like tourists sites.
He further encouraged parents to teach their children Yoruba Culture, noting that this will safe it from total collapse.
Hon. Adetoyi also charged parents to inculcate in their children the spirit of wearing Yoruba attires and eating local menus, alerting that most of the foreign foods that people take are injurious to their health.
He however reiterated that Osun State House of Assembly will not relent in its efforts to ensure that laws are enacted to promote Yoruba culture and tourism.
While speaking at the event, the Supervisor for the Ministry, Hon. Olalekan Badmus said the programme was organised to collaborate with and support the Traditional ruler of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II on the occasion of this year's Osun Osogbo festival.
The Supervisor who was represented by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola explained that the Ministry is saddled with the responsibilities of promoting, showcasing, rescuing and preserving Yoruba Culture from going into extinction.
He spoke further " I welcome you all to this Programme. As you all aware that we are celebrating this year Osun Osogbo festival which has been recognized Internationally.
