Sunday Okunade
Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has stated that his government will continue to explore the cultural and tourism potentials inherent in the State to drive her sustainable socioeconomic growth.
The Governor stated this in Osogbo while delivering an address at the grand finale of this year's edition of Osun Osogbo Festival held at Osun groove.
Governor Oyetola who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji said the Osun Osogbo Festival has no doubt assumed an international status, thus making it to be very strategic to the State.
He said the festival has enlisted the State on the global map thereby attracting pilgrims and tourists from around the world to the state annually. The Festival, according to the Governor, has offered itself as a platform that has tremendously helped the state to showcase and promote Osun’s rich traditional and cultural heritage.
The State helsman further emphasized that his administration will continue to seek ways of mainstreaming Osun's unique potential as a cultural and tourist destination, a move which he said has motivated the design of a culture and tourism masterplan which has guided the state's interventions in the sector.
The Governor used the occasion to thank the American Embassy for the partnership the State has enjoyed and for the sustained support displayed, especially with the recent reclamation and documentation effort on the Osun Osogbo Groove.
According to the Governor, "I enjoin you all to continue to sustain the right attitude so that together we shall bring more investments to Osun.
"As you are well aware, in addition to the frantic efforts being made to attract investment to this state and bolster its image, our administration last year, instituted a policy aimed at encouraging all the state public and civil servants to wear Adire every Thursday of the week".
"This initiative, we believe, will resuscitate our local textile, create employment opportunities, boost marketing and transform the socio-economic and cultural tourism of our dear State and the country as a whole". He stated.
He then urged people of the state to key into this initiative by patronizing our fabrics. "Let us patronise our own fabrics and create our own market. Let us give economic teeth to the Osogbo panegeric (oriki) "Aro ni mbe l'Osogbo, l'Osogbo fi nwuni".
In his royal message, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, Laroye II appreciated the State Government under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and other well meaning individuals that supported him for the success of this year's edition of Osun Osogbo festival.
