4,000 Widows, Aged to benefit from the Monthly Social Support Scheme of Osun Govt



 ...... as Oyetola charges beneficiaries to engage in productive ventures

As part of  efforts to better the lot of the masses in Osun state generally, no fewer than 4000 carefully selected people  from the State Operation Cooperation Unit (SOCU) are to benefit from a #20 million monthly support Scheme for the vulnerable Widows and Aged across the State.

This is in line with the  yearnings and aspirations of the administration of the State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola to ensure that all and sundry live a better life.
 
 Speaking during the flag off Ceremony which held at the Staff Development Center, Osogbo, the State Capital, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola stated that, the initiative is another intervention in his commitment  to  empower the weak by raising the  living standard of the people.

He noted that his administration has injected huge capital inflow into the enterprise while also collaborating with the Federal Government and the private sectors.

Mr Oyetola added  that his administration has engaged in several collaborative efforts with the Federal Government to cater for the needs of the poor including the  disbursement of cash grants  to poor and vulnerable households affected by banditry in Osun; distribution of #20,000 cash per head targeted at 5,000 beneficiaries across the State .

The  Governor therefore promised that he will continue to pursue programmes and policies that will put  people first, empower  the weak in the economic chain and achieve sustainable economic development as long as he remains the Governor of the State. He urged  the beneficiaries of the support scheme to engage in productive ventures that will turn their fortunes  around.

In their separate goodwill messages, the  Akire of Ikire Ile Kingdom, Oba Afeez Olatunbosun; Chairman, Egbedore Local Government Area, Hon. Isiaka Azeez and Iyaloja General, Chief (Mrs) Awawu Asindemade urged the beneficiaries to always keep to their promises all the time noting that, Governor Oyetola has done his own part by fulfilling  promises made to them.

They equally charged them to reciprocate the good gesture by supporting the present administration.
 
Earlier in his address of welcome, the Commissioner for Regional Integration, Engr. Olalekan Badmus appreciated the State Governor,Mr Adegboyega Oyetola  for the support given to the Vulnerables in the State since his assumption into the Office.

He noted that Governor has put smiles on the faces of the needy across the State such as people living with disabilities; the young and the  aged people; Widows; Traders and Artisans through different Intervention Programmes in the state.

Engr. Badmus enjoined the beneficiaries to continue to  give the administration of Governor Oyetola maximum support.
 
In their  appreciation, Mrs Elizabeth Odetayo who spoke on behalf of widows and Mr. Adewale Nureni who represented the aged thanked Governor Oyetola for coming to their aid at this time . As a mark of deep sense of gratitude,  they  prayed for the Governor and his entire cabinet members.

Present at the Programme were  the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye who was represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Regional Integration, Hon. Adebukola Taiwo, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, other Cabinet members and traditional rulers  among others.
