Sunday Okunade
Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola has charged all and sundry to endeavor to sustain Yoruba Culture in order to save it from the danger of looming extinction.
Governor Oyetola stated this in Ede during year 2022 Sango Timi Ede Festival held in the ancient town of Osun State.
The Governor, who spoke through the Supervising Commissioner for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Engr. Olalekan Badmus said the annual festival is very significant to the people of Ede and Yoruba at large, while noting that the Yorubas have a very unique cultural heritage which,he observed, must be meticulously worked upon for sustainance.
Vowing that his administration will never toy with cultural promotion, Osun helmsman explained it was this resolve which informed the inauguration of Osun School Cultural Club, promotion of locally made fabrics known as "Adire Osun", participation in cultural festivals across the State such as Olojo festival, Iwude Ijesa,Kiriji festival as well as Osun Osogbo festival,to mention a few.
While speaking, the Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal appreciated everyone for gracing the occasion while praying God to spear their lives to witness more of it.
He noted that Sango, according to history, is very important to the people of Ede, acknowledging that the daity played a very significant role in the land.
The monarch enjoined the Yorubas to differentiate between culture and religion, advancing, "whoever forgets his or her culture can be likened to throwing a treasure into the ocean"
The Timi of Edeland therefore urged government to put more efforts into the support given to the festival noting that, if well promoted, it is enough to boost the economy of the State.
The event featured various traditional rites as well as entertainment of different kinds.
Present at the festival were the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola, the management team of the Ministry and dignitaries from from both far and near.
