Osun Commissioner educates State residents on utilization of free net distribution

Osun Commissioner for Health, Barr. Jola Akintola has admonished the residents of Osun State, who have collected free insecticide treated nets, to use it judiciously and mainly for it's purpose to assist in the campaign for total elimination of malaria in the State.

The Commissioner, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health,  Dr Isiaka Adekunle disclosed this at the Osun State Second ITN Campaign Coordination Network ( ICCN) meeting held in the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Health,  State Secretariat, Abere.

The Commissioner informed the ICCN members that there is need to improve in the area of sensitization of members of the public on proper hanging process of the net before eventual utilization. He hinted further that it does not speak well for the residents to collect the nets and abandon it.

Earlier in her goodwill message, the National Malaria Elimination Program Officer,Mrs Margaret Chibututu  stated that although the nets have been given out to the people but the utmost goal is for the resident beneficiaries to use the net as already indicated.
Mrs Chibututu  also advised that there should be continuous encouragement on the part of government and the concerned officers, to educate the the people about the usefulness of sleeping inside the net.

In their good will messages, representatives of the Society for Family Health , Dr Ernest Nwokolo  and Dr John Ocholi appreciated  the State Government for their support and all the stakeholders for their  collaboration for the success of the program.

Dr Ocholi hinted that children under Five (5) years and the pregnant women are also eligible to use the distributed free treated nets.

He then advised the pregnant women and parents who have children under ( Five) 5 years to approach the government facilities nearest to them for the collection of the net.

Also the representatives of the duo of catholic Relief Services ( CRS), Mrs Temitope Akintan and the CHEMONICS,  Mr Sunday in their goodwill messages, appreciated everyone  for the success story of the net distribution in the State. According to them,the turnout was massive and encouraging. The eagerness of residents to collect the net shows that both the enlightenment and distribution of the nets touched all the nooks and crannies of the State, they observed.

Highlights of the meeting was: the KML- Geospatial data presentation and distribution dashboard presentation.
