Osun State Government has warned road side traders across the State to stop displaying their wares on walk-ways for their own safety and those who patronise them.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele and made available to newsmen in Osogbo.

The Commissioner through the statement says Government will no longer condone any act that is capable of putting the lives of any resident in danger, hence the habit of buying and selling on walkways must stop.

Explaing that it portends alot of dangers, the Commissioner through the statement also stressed that it causes pedestrian chaos and makes the environment look untidy, rowdy and unkept.

The statement then urged traders to look for spaces to display their wares at nearby markets which is more safer for both the trader and those who patronise them.

According to the statement, "Road Walk-Ways as the name implies is meant for pedestrians to have a space to walk beside the road and not for road side traders to occupy with their wares.

"This act must stop with immediate effect, all road side traders who have occupied the walk-ways should vacate those spaces with immediate effect.

"It is an act which reduces the aesthetic beauty of our roads and the environment at large. It is dangerous for both the sellers and buyers as accidents do occur and the vehicle swerves and rams into anything on the road sides". The Commissioner stated.
