Embrace modern system of production, Osun Govt tasks poultry farmers.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in the state of Osun, Hon Adedayo Adewole, has admonished farmers in the State to embrace modern trends in Agriculture.
Hon.Adewole gave this admonition at a one day Seminar organized by Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN), Osun State Chapter in conjunction with Poultry Association of Nigeria ( PAN) State of Osun Chapter.
The seminar which held at PAN House Osogbo, afforded the state Commissoner for agriculture another opportunity to reel out series of efforts made and still being put in place by Oyetola led administration to ensure food sufficiency and security in Osun.
The Agric Commissoner who was represented by the Cordinating Director of the Ministry, Mrs Adegbemisola Fayoyin, particularly urged poultry farmers to key into modern trends in the management and feeding of their animals.
Hon.Adewole similarly advised Poultry farmers to diversify their production styles by also going into maize production which will also enable them to produce animal feeds on their own instead of going to the market to buy the feeds at exorbitant prices.
The Commissoner further observed that the cost of feeding takes 70 percent of the total production cost of poultry farmers. Against this backdrop , going into maize production to prepare their animal feeds on their own will serve as a means of effectively maximizing profits in poultry production, according to Hon.Adewole.
While appreciating the organisers of the one day seminar for its timeliness and in particular their support for his Ministry, Hon. Adedayo Adewole hinted poultry farmers in the state will soon be avail yet another opportunity of enjoying the popular Osun Broiler Out growers Production Scheme 3 (OBOPS3),which according to him will be revived by Oyetola led administration.
The Guest Lecturer at the seminar,Dr Sunday Adegbaju talked extensively on the need for farmers to be alive to their responsibilities especially in embracing new techniques and trends that would help them have more productive yields in their day to day operations as farmers.
Dr Adegbaju also highlighted the importance of having proper biosecurity to prevent incurring avoidable cost during production.
