2021 Ijo Orisa Festival: I'm Committed to the Cultural ideals of Yoruba land at all times, says Oyetola.

Governor of the state of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola has said, his administration will continue to give necessary support to the growing  clamour for the revival and revitalisation of the dying Yoruba culture and tradition.

Mr Oyetola noted that culture with tradition defines a given entity, hence the need to accord the two the necessary  pride of place in the scheme of things.

The Governor stated these at  Kuta on the occasion of Ijo Orisa  Festival hosted by Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Makama.

Governor Oyetola who was represented by the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Obawale Adebisi, applauded the Monarch for his initiative to organize the festival.

He  noted that Ijo Orisa  is one of the ways to resuscitate the already  dying Yoruba Culture, while maintaining that his administration has done a lot in this regard.

Mr Oyetola challenged other royal fathers in the state to keep the rich tempo of culture and traditions of Yoruba afloat so that the present and future generations will have a lot to see and learn from.

" We must not allow our culture and traditions to go into extinction. We must do all we can to sustain and cherish them". Emphasised Mr Oyetola.

Earlier In his address of welcome during the festival which  featured variety of Cultural displays, dance of the masquerades among many more other cultural varieties showcased by the participants, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Makama  affirmed that any monarch in Yorubaland that brings any religion other than traditional religion into any palace is alien to such a Culture.

He noted that the Ijo Orisa  festival as the name denotes is   the first of its kind in the history of the town organised to promote the rich Culture and tradition of his people.

The traditional ruler  reiterated that the festival has nothing to do with religion but a means of  reviving the dying culture of Yoruba land.

Oba Makama was emphatic that  there is no village, town, city and even a Country without its Culture. He used the occasion to  appreciate the sons and daughters of the town  including all well wishers for gracing the occasion.

"If our culture can be effectively harnessed, it will serve as one of the means of generating revenue.

"We must do everything within our reach to promote it what is ours at the expense of what is alien to us. Culture is a totality of the way of life. It must not be allowed to go into extinction" said Oba Makama.

At the event were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi  represented by Oba Olalekan Faseesin,  Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Kilani Adekeye, Olu of Ile Ogbo, Oba Habeeb Adetoyese, Araba Awo of Osogboland, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon among others.
