Osun Govt. Restates Commitment to Promotion of Yoruba Language.
Sunday Okunade.
Osun State Government under the able leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has restated its resolve to adequately promote Yoruba Culture, especially Yoruba Language so as to save if from total collapse across the globe.
Governor Oyetola stated this in Osogbo the State Capital while playing host to the representatives of Yorubas who reside in Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin who paid him a courtesy visit.
The Governor who spoke through the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Obawale Adebisi expressed his sadness that the speaking of Yoruba language is gradually becoming old fashion in the State which according to him is a place that is widely regarded as the source of the Yoruba race.
He then noted that if proper care is not taken, the foreigners will be the ones to teach Yoruba language in our schools.
The Governor, who placed much premium on the 'Oduduwa Alphabets', which he said is not only physical but also spiritual in nature, pointed out that the Yorubas have deviated from the numerous mode of communication God has blessed them with.
The State helmsman then emphasized that his administration will continue to support, develop and promote the Yoruba language so as to keep its flag flying globally.
Earlier in his words, the leader of the team of the representatives of Yorubas in Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin, Chief Tolulase Oguntosin who is also a native of Ilesa in Osun State, applauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his commitment to the promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition.
He described the Governor as a cool headed man whose administration has benefited a lot of Osun citizens and residents.
He specifically commended Governor Oyetola for doing the state proud in the area of promoting the Oduduwa Alphabets known as "AEBAJIOGBE ODUDUWA".
Chief Oguntosin, who explained that Oduduwa Alphabets is well known in every part of the globe, then said British colonisation has been its major bane coupled with the fact that most Yoruba people do not value it.
While also describing the Oduduwa Alphabets as the only 'talking' Alphabets in the world and the only future that the Yorubas have, he charged them to stop promoting foreign languages and cultures at the expense of Yoruba language and culture but should rather embrace Yoruba language and culture by propagating both adequately.
While he urged parents to always communicate with their children in Yoruba language, Chief Oguntosin however used the opportunity to intimate the State Government about the 6th Anniversary of the creation of AEBAJIOGBE and Graduation Ceremony of students who have been trained in the use of Oduduwa Alphabets slated for the 14th of February, 2022 at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Present at the meeting were the representative of the Mayor of Porto-Novo, who is also the Director of Culture and Heritage, Richard Lys Hounsou; the Coordinating Director, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Solabomi Akinsola among other notable dignitaries.
