Culture: A rallying point for growth, sustainability of Africans-- Osun Governor

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has re-emphasized that Culture remains the rallying point for the growth and sustainability of the people of Africa.
The Governor stated this at the 6th Year Anniversary and Graduation Ceremony of the first set of the AEBAJIOGBE Alphabetic Academy, held at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He said that, if African countries will develop, the promotion of culture must not be toyed with.
Governor Oyetola who was represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Obawale Adebisi noted that this explains why Osun is the custodian of culture, tradition and in the fore front of tourism campaign, stressing that a significant aspect of tourism is our culture and historical sites, explaining that the State has showcased to the World and channelling a lot of resources to culture regeneration and creation of tourism hubs in the State, regardless of the advent of modernisation.
Governor Oyetola advised the graduands of the Academy that they have assumed the active stage of human affairs where everything they learnt must be put to practice, adding that they should employ what they have gained for the development of Yoruba region and culture.
The State helsman therefore appreciated the founder of AEBAJIOGBE Academy, Chief Tolulase Oguntosin for the initiative and recognizing the State for ever supporting the promotion of Oduduwa heritage.
He further saluted the leaders of Yorubas for their struggle and paid glowing tribute to the beautiful Memories of Patriots, such as the 3rd Aareonakakanfo (Oyabiyi) of Yoruba land, the warrior who took Oduduwa Alphabets from Ilesa, Osun State to Ajase-Ile, Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin in the seventh Century.
While speaking, the Mayor of Porto-Novo, Yankoty Charlemagne urged Africans to change their orientation in order to develop the Continent like that of other developed Countries. He noted that, Yoruba language should be the strength of people's consciousness and must be given a priority.
He further explained that, Yoruba and Benin Republic are one entity but separated by colonization, saying that they must ensure they work together for the development of Yoruba heritage.
The Mayor promised his support for AEBAJIOGBE project, urging the graduands not to play with the knowledge they have acquired.
In his address, the founder of the AEBAJIOGBE Academy, Chief Tolulase Oguntosin appreciated all the important personalities that graced the occasion, advancing that AEBAJIOGBE has been in existence for a very long time ago since the era of Oduduwa who was the progenitor of the prominent Kingdoms in Yoruba land. He added that AEBAJIOGBE is the only talking alphabets in the World, thereby enjoined all Yorubas to embrace it for proper development of Yoruba Culture in the world.
Chief Tolulase said if people can hold on to the alphabet, they will surely fufil destiny in life.
In his keynote address, Professor Benjamin Ogunfolaju said Yoruba dignity can only be revived through the alphabet, saying this is why it is important for everybody to learn it.
He noted that Children should be taught the language and be able to speak it fluently wherever they find themselves.
The occasion witnessed entertainments by different cultural troups as well as issuance of certificates to the graduands.
Present at the event were: Yoruba monarchs from Porto-Novo; Senior Special Assistat on Culture and Tourism, Mr Opesina Raimi; Awolowo University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbode; Executive Secretary, Council for Arts and Culture, Mr Samuel Adeniyi; Coordinating Director of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Sola Akinsola; other Directors from the Ministry among numerous dignitaries too numerous to mention.
