Oyetola lauds FG for approving Oba Hills forest reserve as a National Park




 


Osun Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has applauded the Federal Government of Nigeria for the designation of Oba Hills Forest Reserve, located in Olorunda Local Government Area of the State, as a National Park.

Governor Oyetola disclosed this during a courtesy visit paid him by the Conservator General of the Federation and his team  at the Government House, Osogbo, the State Capital. He noted that the new development will beautify and also improve the economy of the State.

He rejoiced that the new development will not only put the legendary Oba Hills Forest Reserve on the world map,but will also turn it to a money spinner for the   State. 

The State helsman therefore pledged his maximum cooperation with the National Park Service for the smooth and effective take-off of the project.

In his remarks, the Conservator General, National Park Service, Dr. Ibrahim Okeyoyin revealed that the Federal Government has released one hundred million Naira for the take-off of the National Park as  financial support from the Federal Government.

He called on the State Government and host community to give their unalloyed support to the Agency for the project to thrive.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation in Osun, Engineer Solagbade Oladepo appreciated the efforts of the Conservator General and his team  in the journey of upgrading Oba Hills Forest Reserve into a National Park Status.

The Commissioner equally appreciated the initial Steering Committee that had been put in place to sensitize the immediate communities of the forest reserve and prepare ground for it's effective take-off.

He enthused that Oba Hills Reserve is 5,250 hectares of land with abundance of significant plant and animal species and five hills that have significant ecological importance which will surely help in the re-introduction and adaptation of important animal species, and other uniquely important features.

Engineer Oladepo therefore charged the National Park Service on the need to continue to fully carry Osun State Government along in the implementation of the plans and programmes for the take-off and management of the new Oba Hills National Park.
