Don't let down your guards against COVID-19, Egbemode warns Osun residents

Osun Government, under the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has again warned residents in the State not to let down their guards against Corona virus pandemic, as it is still wrecking havoc all over the world. 

The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode gave the warning in Osogbo, the State Capital,  at a one-day workshop organised by the International Society of Public Law, Nigeria Chapter. She stated that the pandemic is very deadly as described by  health practitioners,and advised all and sundry to ensure that it is kept at bay. 

The Commissioner who noted that the outbreak of COVID-19 has affected all sectors of human endeavour, explained that the State Government has not rest on it's oars to ensure the pandemic is reduced to the bearest minimum by creating awareness in all communication media, including market rallies.

She charged Osun residents not to play with all the safety guidelines such as regular warshing of hands, the use facemask, social distancing to mention but few.

Also speaking, the State Head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyebade registered his displeasure over the lackadaisical attitude of civil servants in the State to COVID-19 vaccine, noting that  available record shows that less than 2 percent of workers have shown up to be vaccinated. He then advised workers who are yet to be vaccinated to go for it before it is too late

In his presentation, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Professor Adesegun Fatusi who spoke on the theme of the programme, " COVID-19: The sign of the times, the shape of the future, the legal implications"  disclosed that, as at the 3rd of March, this year, report showed that the number of tests conducted were 4,442,964,confirmed cases were 254,570, the discharged cases were 249,075 while the number of deaths recorded were 3,142. He lamented that people don't believe that the virus is real,hence they flout the rules given by health authorities with impunity.

Professor Fatusi opined that the pandemic has been with the world and it cannot be totally eliminated, hence the need to always prepare for it in the future while urging the law enforcement agencies to enforce the laws on people in order to halt it's spread.

In her own words, the convener of the workshop, Honorable Justice Dotun Onibokun enjoined employers to continue to take care of their staff, admonishing  those who are still working from home to let the spirit of care giving continue.

However, she urged Government to make the education of the populace a priority,noting that this will ameliorate the spread of the disease.
