Ember Months: Osun Transportation Commissioner Appeals For Caution On Roads



...urges proper check of vehicles before hitting the road

As the year enters its last quarter,with the month of September popularly referred to as the 'Ember Months', Osun State Ministry of Transportation has cautioned motorists and other road users to be careful and ensure safety on the roads.

In a release signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele, which advised motorists and other road users  to exercise patience and put safety first, the Commissioner specially enjoined commercial drivers to be careful on the roads as the Christmas season approaches.

He cautioned them against overspeeding in the rush to complete as many trips as possible in a day which is always a common phenomenon among commercial drivers during the 'Ember Months' of the year.

Oyedele explained, through the statement, that it is unfortunate that the last four months of the year have  been demonized as a period when road accidents usually occur, noting that the accidents in this period is as a result of human factors and carelessness.

He explained,through the statement,that it is a period of the year when the roads get more busy and because of that accidents are likely to happen if road users don't exercise caution and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition. 

The statement reads in part, "We are in September and the popular 'Ember Months' are here again. Unfortunately we have demonized these months as periods when accidents happen mostly in the year. It is not those months that cause accidents, it is us as road users because of our carelessness.

"While the Osun State Government is wishing everyone safe trips on the roads, it is also important to appeal to every road user and especially commercial drivers to exercise caution on the roads for the safety of everybody. 

"We should limit our speed at this time and always, the breaks pads of our vehicles should be in good condition, windscreen wipers must function well and motorists must observe and obey road signs. Overloading of our vehicles must also be avoided", the Commissioner enlightened.

Osun LGSC career head directs HLAs to make imprest a first line charge

By Jide Akano Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) in Osun State have been directed to make the issue of monthly imprest their first line charge while dispensing their monthly allocation.
