Apparently worried and concerned about the incessant rate of dog bites in the society in recent times, Osun State Government has frowned at the development with a declaration that, henceforth, dog owners will face necessary disciplinary action in line with the dictates of the law if any of their dogs is found culpable.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Tola Faseru sounded this note of warning to all dog breeders and owners including veterinary outfits in the State.

Hon. Faseru gave the warnings during  a meeting held with the dog breeders, owners and veterinarian at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Agriculture and food Security, State Secretariat, Abere.

The Commissioner particularly frowned at the rate at which unlicensed dogs roam about the streets aimlessly.

He further explained that it is now compulsory for all veterinary outfits to ensure that they are  registered with the State government just as he directed that all dogs must get anti- rabies vaccination certificate which must be  duly signed by a certified veterinarian.
Mr Faseru, on behalf of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke used the opportunity to extend a condolence message to the family of a dog bite  victim in Halleluyah Estate Area, Osogbo, where two dogs killed a five month old baby and injured its mother.

In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and OSADEC, Hon. Akanfe Atidade and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Adegbemisola Fayoyin enjoined dog owners and breeders to respect the feelings  of other people in the society who do not love dogs.

While speaking, the Director, Department of Veterinary Services of the Ministry, Dr (Mrs) Olatokun appreciated dog owners and breeders for honouring the Ministry's invitation, adding that  anti-rabies vaccines are in all government veterinary clinics in Osun state and can be obtained free of charge. She therefore enjoined members of the public to call the emergency line: 08034110361 if they see any dog misbehaving around them.

In their separate reactions,  Dr. (Mrs)Aogo Serah, Dr. Wintope Olabisi and Miss Malcolm Fatimah among other participants promised to act in line with the directive of the State Government.
