Osun Health Ministry boss harps on the need to intensify awareness campaign on TB eradication

As Osun State joins the rest of the world today to mark World Tuberculosis Day,the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Mr Kayode Adegoke has emphasized the need to increase the level of awareness on eradication of tuberculosis in the State.
It would be recalled that the 24th March of every year is set aside by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness about Tuberculosis epidemic and to make efforts to eradicate this global and devastating disease.
The Permanent Secretary made the advocacy today at a programme organized to mark Year 2023 edition of world tuberculosis day which was held in the EOC room of the Ministry.
The Ministry of Health Boss who was represented by the Director Of Public Health, Dr Akeem Bello hinted that tuberculosis is preventable and curable.
The Career Head in the Ministry also itemized some of the symptoms of tuberculosis disease to include, among others, coughing for more than two weeks, coughing out blood, fever, sweating, chest pain, loss of weight and loss of appetite.
He further hinted that it can affect brain, bone and every part of the body.
He then advised that any person having those symptoms should go for medical laboratory test at the State Hospital where the test and treatment are free.
Also speaking at the event was the Chairman for Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control, Mr Adeyinka Gabriel who explained that Tuberculosis disease can be controlled and eradicated through the efforts of the state government, local government, Non- Governmental Organizations and also with the total support of the people.
He stressed further that anyone suffering from the above mentioned symptoms is suffering from TB but could only be confirmed by authentic laboratory test.
While recalling that in Nigeria as best case notification award of Disease Control,and that the State also came 2nd because of the support from partners against TB control. Mr.Gabriel urged the residents to carry the awareness campaign to people in their immediate surroundings, church, workplace and other relevant publics.
In attendance were the following stakeholders: the Representative of MOH Directors and Deputy Directors, Hospital Management Board, primary health care board, OSHIA, Development partners: WHO, DFB,TBLON, IHVN, ARFH, ECEWS, CBOS, SHEAD, MDRTB, ward COE Members, LGATBLS, LAB scientist, Media and other stakeholders.
