The State Government of Osun under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has urged the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter not to embark on its planned protest today in the state. While completely condemning the planned protest, the State Government says the existing peace and harmony being enjoyed by all and sundry should not be allowed to affected or mortgaged under the guise of a peaceful protest. Community in various Local Government Areas in Osun State have vowed to end Female Genital Mutilation in their localities. The community leaders from Oriade, Ife-South, Ifelodun, Olaoluwa, Ife-Central, Orolu and Ife-East met in Osogbo, the state capital where they pledged to end the practice in the state. The one-day state level meeting to validate the LGAs FGM elimination action plan was supported by United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF). The community leader said they have realised that FGM is dangerous for girl child and emphasised the need for domestication of the FGM law at various LGAs in the state. A traditional ruler in the state, the Olu of Idi-Iroko, Oba Okunoye Lateef Orisawale who was also at the meeting said FGM is a harmful traditional practice that must be eliminated. Osun State Government has presented over N867 million worth of bonds to 154 retirees in the state. The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Staff Pension, Mr Kayode Afolabi made this known while presenting the Bond Certificates to the beneficiaries under the Contributory Pension Scheme Programme of the State at the Local Government Service Commission Hall, Osogbo. According to him, the scheme also ensures that civil servants receive their entitlements as and when due because it establishes and implements a set of rules and regulations for the administration and payment of retirement benefits to retirees. He stated that 76  retired primary school teachers were given the sum of N604,049,941,54 while another 78 retired Local Government staff got a total sum of N 263, 509,517,00.
